Raising funds for local causes in memory of Chris Barlow
Local man and keen runner Daniel Davies is part-way through a year-long challenge in memory of his best friend Chris Barlow, who sadly passed away in a tragic accident in June this year, aged 31.

Daniel says “Chris was a fantastic friend and an amazing young man who loved life. He was a great sportsman and played for many local clubs including Marple Cricket Club, Mellor FC and Millbrow Football Club too." That's why he decided to undertake his most significant challenge yet, and is running 5km per day for an incredible 365 days in tribute to his friend!
Daniel has done other run challenges of 75 and 100 days in a row, but this one is by far his biggest to date. Even Vernon Kay was impressed when Daniel explained what he was doing during his appearance on Radio 2's 10 to the Top Quiz in November!
Day 109 falls on Christmas Day 2023!
Daniel began his challenge in September and he's planning a special finish at Marple Cricket Club with other runners in September 2024.
It's a truly relentless challenge, full of highs and lows so far, and Daniel says "I will run 5k every day, even Christmas Day, and if I go on holiday I'll run wherever I am. Most of my runs are around Marple, or as I go to work in New Mills".
Money raised in Chris's name will go to local causes
Daniel has agreed with local charity the Macnair Trust that the money he raises during this challenge will be channelled through them to support local causes.
The aims of the Trust are set out within strict guidelines but in brief the charity can support those causes which preserve the local environment, promote the arts in the locality, benefit young people and encourage activities in the interests of health and social welfare within the Marple area. He thinks Chris would have liked this as he played a big part in the Marple Community.
