A glimpse of the Marple of yesteryear with Gordon Mills
An imaginary journey through the Marple of yesteryear using old photographs (some over 100 years old), together with some more recent photographs (April 2003) for comparison.
Marple's Changing Face began life as an audio visual presentation prepared by the late Gordon Mills in 2003. It was so popular that Gordon converted it to VHS tape, and later to DVD, selling it to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
In 2012 a small version of the video was added to the Virtual History Tour in 5 segments due to its size. In 2014, with the permission of Gordon's family, this full MP4 video version was been put on-line by The Marple Website to share Gordon's creation with more Marple folk and the wider world too.
Gordon was a prolific writer, photographer and local historian who produced several fascinating video interviews with local people, guided local history walks and this, the definitive photo history presentation of "Marple's Changing Face".
Gordon was a fantastic supporter of The Marple Website since it first began in 1998, allowing his guided walks to be included on the site even though they were still for sale in local shops.
Tapes of Gordon's interviews with local people from Marple Local History Society Archives were converted and added to the (old) site in 2011. Adding Marple's Changing Face in 2014 meant that all Gordon's legacy of work relating to Marple's history was now available on-line for everyone to enjoy.
Gordon's other videos will be transferred onto the new site as time allows.
