Calling Marple Artists of all ages and levels of expertise!
Art Stop CIC are working on a new Community Art Project with the Marple Vision Team and Stockport Council and permission has been granted to create artwork for three redundant panels on the side of Superdrug next to Iceland on Market Street.
Art Stop CIC are now asking for local VOLUNTEER artists of all ages to create sketches with ideas for images that celebrate Marple.
An initial Mock up:
This photo is a "loose" mock up pulled together with work from other projects to illustrate how it might look.
The sizes may be a bit big and we are working on that now. There are limited spaces for the artwork.
The theme is "Marple"!
Past and present, beautiful landmarks, history, nature etc, something you love about Marple.
We want to see a variety of subjects and styles using techniques both traditional and contemporary.
The final display will look like a permanent outdoor gallery.
We want to showcase the amazing creativity that we have here in our community.
All of the schools have been invited to take part also.
Extending Marple's Community Art Trail
This project is very similar to the one in Marple Memorial Park on the pavilion building and also Rose Hill Train station car park.
Instead of circles we will be using rectangles and squares to create an outdoor gallery of art work created by people of all ages in the community. The images will all be painted with acrylic paints or Posca pans on 9mm plywood, which will be provided to those people whose ideas will be part of the display.
Artists will be provided with a prepared panel and any materials they might require.
Other mediums could work for outdoor such as permanent ink and oil paints.
Every piece of art will be then given special anti graffiti UV varnish to protect in the outdoors before installation.
We will run a couple of workshops at Art Stop Studio in the Goyt Mill offered to those who would like to work alongside other artists.
Tracy and Pete at Art Stop CIC look forward to hearing from you soon!
Community Art Project Timeline
Sketches to be submitted by 21 January please. They must be in colour if your final artwork is to be colour.
When doing your sketch please note that all art work will be on a rectangle [portrait or landscape] or a square.
A small small section of how the finished art will look would also be helpful.
Include your name and contact details on your sketch and your age, as we want a cross section of all ages to be represented.
Email Sketches to
Sketches will be reviewed by our team from 22 - 29 January and the art to go in the mural will be decided upon.
Artists will be notified 30 January and arrangements made for artists to receive their prepared panels, project instructions and any materials required. There will be 2 optional all day drop in Workshops inviting artists to come and work on their pieces in the studio alongside other artists, dates to be announced.
Artwork will need to be completed by the artist by no later than 17 March.
Finished art will then be left with Art stop to be varnished and cure before installation at the end of March 2025.
Possible subjects for your artwork...
The list of ideas below has already put forward by local people and we would like many of these to be represented but of course you can also come up with your own ideas. In order to balance the subject matter we will firstly be asking for sketches and ideas to be submitted and then there will be a selection process. If two artists tackle the same subject then we may ask if one of them can do something else.
