1964 to 1966
The period from 1964 to 1969 was the busiest time for Frank's record keeping and there are so many reports and photographs that we have split it into two categories. This one begins with the new school term in September 1964 and runs until the end of 1966. Most of the photographs taken during this period have been linked to individual walks apart from a few in 1964, which are used to fill gaps.
Snowdon Horseshoe, via Crib Goch
Our attempt at the Snowdon Horseshoe, via Crib Goch, during the Whit Holiday expedition was largely frustrated by bad weather and the need to walk the 5 ¼ miles each way from Capel Curig. With the agreement, indeed approval, of the headmaster it was decided to make another attempt late in the term.

Nabb Brow
Being the first ramble of the new school year an easy route was chosen - a route fairly free from mud, bearing in mind that many first year children would not have proper walking boots.
The route chosen was from Hayfield on the path towards William Clough and Nab Brow - this was after checking the shooting areas [9 & 10] for the day. On the map the main path skirts the area 9. However at the gate to the access area was a notice saying "no access today". However, after studying the map, decided to press on keeping strictly to the path. Met two wardens on patrol, discussed the matter briefly; the wardens agreed and we pressed on.

Malham Tarn & Cove
Made good time on the outward run, arriving at Malham by about 11.00am. Weather was cloudy but dry - cloud was low, below hill top level in many places.
After the usual delays when we start from a village (ie buying sweets, drinks, etc,) we set off along the lane towards Gordale Scar.

Snake Inn to Fairbrook
From the Snake Inn we headed a short distance along the main road towards Glossop before turning off left on to the Ashop Clough path. This was followed for only about half a mile when a sharp turn left was made up the steep hillside towards Fairbrook Naze.
The weather was warm but somewhat foggy, but this showed signs of clearing. On footwear inspection, three pairs of hardly suitable shoes were found, but as the weather seemed fairly mild and the wearers very keen, it was decided to let them have a crack at the route.

Edale Night Ramble
The following members assembled at Marple Station to board the 10.15pm train for Edale to take part in what has become our traditional annual night ramble.
From Edale Station we passed quietly thru' the village, over the log bridge and into the meadows. Instead of following the route up Grindsbrook to the gorge, we clambered up the steep slope and rocks to Ringing Roger. Way was then made along the edge of Grindsbrook Clough to Grindsbrook Head, where we stopped for food.

Crowden Brook
The weather had been bad for several days and some snow had fallen. The forecast for the day was not good - hence the small party.
However, on arrival at Edale the sun was shining brightly, although there was cloud on the hills. The mountains looked fine - snow covered under bright sunshine. Never seen the country looking more beautiful.
