This is the community web site for Marple in Stockport. It was started in 1998 to provide useful information for local people and potential visitors and to contribute to the fantastic community spirit that abounds in this small canal town on the edge of the peaks. It is now in its 3rd Generation and continues to do this with regular updates and lots of interaction with the local community.

Drop-In organisers have asked The Marple Website to share news of their VE Day 80th Anniversary celebrations, which certainly went with a swing! A little Glen Miller, a 1940s singalong, Union Jacks, costumes, bunting, afternoon tea, fizz and fun: there was so much to enjoy!
The Marple Website's collection of photos, known as the Virtual History Tour, began 24 years ago, in 2001.
In 2006 it was moved to a Gallery platform called Coppermine. With the help of Marple Local History Society and others the "Tour" grew to hold over 15,500 images that have been viewed more than 5.6 Million times.
In December 2024 migration to Piwigo, a more mobile friendly platform, began.
Migrating so many images will be a long process. While ongoing visitors will need to switch between 2nd Generation and 3rd Generation sites to access all the images available.
