Cheque presented to Marple Band
January has been a quieter month as we have all been recovering from the busy Christmas Collections and celebrating Christmas and New Year with our families and friends. The speakers this month included our own Peter Rogers who continued his “My Life” talk and Rotarian Matteo Sassanelli whose talk “Life in England” was also interesting. Also during January, Howard and Ruth Groves from Marple Band joined us for the meeting and we presented them with a cheque to help Band funds.
Our speakers in February include Jessie McHale from East Cheshire Hospice and Tegan Williams speaking about “Working in Taiwan”
Marple Band has provided the following quote:
The band would like to thank The Marple and New Mills Rotary Club for their generous donation of £250 to help towards the cost of replacing one of the bands Tenor Horns.
Howard and Ruth Groves were invited, on behalf of the band, to one of their meetings at lunchtime on Thursday 17th January to receive the cheque from their President, Mike Coleman.
Some of the bands instruments are beginning to look and sound very tired, with many being over 30 years old. We are fundraising to replace them, with the immediate priorities being a Tenor Horn and a Cornet. If you would like to help towards raising funds for our new instruments please contact the Events Secretary (Ruth Groves) through the website link.
