Ludworth Primary School

Ludworth has a proud history stretching back over one hundred years to 1908, when it was opened in the Autumn term, under the headmastership of Mr Alfed Heppleston. Back then it was part of Derbyshire Education Authority.

The school stayed open through both the first and second world wars, when pupils had to practice putting on their gas masks each day in case of attack or invasion by the German army.

The school has developed and changed over the years, growing physically in size as it has been extended a number of times out at the back and towards the river.

Today it is a vibrant and forward-looking school with modern facilities and technology for the children. One thing which has not changed, however, is its sense of 'care and community'. Always regarded as a very successful and incredibly happy school, it continues to thrive as it looks towards the challenges of the twenty-first century.
