The Locks group have been busy during 2017 going out for task days every other Monday, in most weathers, apart from torrential rain!
We've painted about half of the 16 locks this year, a task that will never end but it's great to see the locks with a fresh coat of paint and looking their best.
We've been doing some gardening next to Memorial Park at Posset Bridge and cleared away some of the overgrown shrubs. A less pleasant task has been removing graffiti, which appeared along various locations on the flight of locks. We've also been doing regular litter picks from Top Lock all the way to the aqueduct.
The group has more than doubled in size this year and it's fantastic to have so many lovely new volunteers who are all hard working and great to get along with.
The group operate independently but we do have some great support from Phil at the Canal and River Trust, who makes our task days a lot easier by supplying equipment, tools and the all important hot water for a brew!
If you think you might be interested in joining us, please get in touch. We always welcome new volunteers, no experience or special kit needed, just drop us a line and we'll let you know the next set of task day dates. People come along to the group as and when they are available so there's no need to commit to all the sessions.
A big thank you to all our volunteers who work hard and make the group really lovely to be part of. Here's to a great 2018!
